When you have an average customer journey length of 5 touchpoints, it means that somebody needs 5 visits to a website before he or she converts into a sale. The average position of an affiliate is the average position in this customer journey. Using the cumulative data of all individual customer journeys, you can calculate an average digit between 0 and 1. A digit of 0.5 indicates the exact middle of the customer journey, while a digit lower than 0.5 means that an affiliate is more active at the beginning of a customer journey. A digit above 0.5 indicates that an affiliate is more active towards the end of the customer journey.
